Glamorgan Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers

Our next meeting is on Thursday 8th November at Kynance Hall from 7.30 pm. A bit of a break from our usual programme - this is a  Show and Tell - giving members the opportunity to show off their most recent work and discuss techniques, ideas and the like! Although preparation for our next event is also listed, next year is looking to be very busy - so the next showcase of our work is yet to be confirmed! Ideas and suggestions in regards to this will be warmly welcomed by the committee as we are always looking for new ways of promoting our crafts and the Guild. We hope to see you there!

Our September meeting is a change to our programme. We will be visited by Elen Phillips, curator of the Costume and Textile Gallery in St Fagans. This promises to be an exciting and interesting presentation and we are very much looking forward to it! As usual it will be held in Kynance Hall, Dinas Powys starting at 7.30 pm. Our next meeting is this Saturday in Dinas Powys Souts Hall from the usual time 10am-4pm. This workshop will be led by guild members on Needlefelt, Maradai braids and Inkle weaving as a follow up from last month's evening meeting where we had demonstrations of the individual crafts. This promises to be a fun workshop with the opportunity to pick up a new skill, or try your hand at something you've always wanted to give a go! A bit more information about the new gallery Michelle Griffiths is opening in the Model House next weekend. Location: First Floor, Model House Craft & Design Centre, Llantrisant, CF72 8EB (Llantrisant is just off Junction 34 of the M4). Inaugural Event:  Saturday 30 June - Sunday 1 July opening at 10 am on both days. Exhibitors include: Susan Bowers - Patchwork & Quilting Demonstrations Susan Briscoe - Sashiko/Quilting Japanese Textiles Joan Gordon - Couture Dressmaking techniques with the sewing machine. Michelle Griffiths – Tie-Dye/Shibori Demonstrations Ruth Harries & Lisa Porch of Fibre Art Wales – meet the artist Felicity J Warnes - Rare, out of print, and second hand textile books. Including books on embroidery, spinning, weaving, dyeing, patchwork, and quilting. And of course - members of the guild! Hope to see you there!

Very exciting news has reached us at Glamorgan Guild! Michelle Griffiths the World Shibori Network representative for UK/Ireland is opening a new gallery based in the Model House in Llantrisant. The Resist Gallery Studio promises to be an exciting development with exhibitions on shibori/tie-dye, batik, ikat, cyanotype resists and eco-resist printing. Not to mention the workshop programme under development, reference library, talks, lectures and much much more! We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to display our work during the opening weekend 30th June - 1st July and also do demonstrations - along with other exhibitors from the world of textiles! We look forward to seeing you there!

Our next meeting will be at 7:30 in Kynance Hall in Dinas Powys on Thursday 14th June. This will be an  introduction to and demonstrations on Needlefelt, Maradai braids and Inkle weaving. As our July meeting is a workshop meeting - we are giving our guests and members the opportunity to learn new skills (or improve on old ones!) in June, and then, if they wish - focus on these during our workshop day in July. This month's workshop is an open workshop. Feel free to bring whatever you fancy working on! Some members will be bringing their six inch rings to start/complete for the national exhibition. We run from 10am-4pm at the Scouts Hall, Dinas Powys. Please email us for more information.

Our next meeting in Dinas Powys is on Thursday 12th April at 7:30pm Kynance Hall (rear of the Methodist Church). We will be visited by Gareth Jones from the British Wool Marketing Board. He will give a general presentation on the BWMB’s role and activities, market situation and the Campaign for Wool.So if there are any questions or queries you have for Gareth - please come along! Congratulations to new committee members Rhoda & Tora. They graciously volunteered to assist with the running and organisation of the guild's activities. Welcome aboard! Our AGM was a good update of where we are as a guild and where we want to be going in the future. Lots of ideas were put forward for the committee to follow up. After the meeting a stash clearing was held. Lots of lovely things were re-distributed to new homes, with everyone plotting what they can create next. Our next meeting in April is on the 12th. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Just a quick reminder to say that our next meeting is our AGM. We are looking for nominations for committee membership - please contact Jane/Kathy with your suggestions- once you have the permission of the person in question obviously! Following that we are having a swap shop - if there's anything in your stash that is just taking up space - bring it along and see if you can pick up something else instead! This will all be at Kynance Hall in Dinas Powys from 7:30pm. See you there!

Much fun was had by all who attended the colour blending workshop led by Doreen. First off we started by blending our own colour wheels - here are some of the results.  As you can see - different primary colours made very different results in our colour wheels. After lunch we worked on our samples. No pictures unfortunately - but perhaps we'll have some finished product pictures inspired by the workshop at some point!
